You should first understand a clear definition of meditation before we move forward so we can all be on the same grounds.

To answer the question of whether a person should or can meditate if they believe in God, we first have to clear some things out.

What does God mean to you?

A lot of people don’t ask themselves this because, of assumptions. What they were taught when they were little or what was explained to them when they join a certain religion becomes their reality.

God can mean a lot of things to different people, what do I mean by this, before religion and Christianity spread across the world, a lot of tribes around the world had a different definition of God, for example, some worshipped Sun as their God, at first it might appear stupid, but when you look closer it is more scientific and logical than you think.

Consider this, the sun is the source of all energy, without the sun we can’t have plants because of photosynthesis, without the sun the planet would be frozen and therefore no life. So people of the ancients recognized this to give its respect. Think of the Earth, would you consider it your God? does it provide for your wellbeing?

Let’s go back to religion, the major religions are Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and Hinduism. All these religions believe in God or gods, but they are different, so every religion might end up telling you their God is a true God, while there might be a disagreement, you will find out they are both right based on their definition of God, and that God might mean a lot of different things to different people.

So back to the question, Can you meditate if you believe in God? see the loopholes?

That the words God and meditation are broad. Because meditation itself is not a religion, neither is praying, the point is who are you praying to? Is a mental exercise a religion?

Maybe the question should have been,

  • Can you practice Buddhism meditation if you are a Christian?
  • Or can your practice meditation from other religions than yours?

because meditation itself can mean a lot of things to different people.

What is God?

The accepted definition of God is the Creator of Everything, the Almighty Creator. Therefore, because nothing can exist without this Source of Creation, All creation is part of The Source.

The simplest answer is God is the entire existence, so everything including good and evil is part of God. All is God, God is All.

Then religions are mere different disciplines and schools of understanding this Source. They are like countries in a global community where The Universe is God, these countries have different rules and regulations so that they can accommodate each other, but are all part of the same Universe.

We close the case, then we want to move on to the idea of meditating on God.

How do you Meditate on God?

I have already explained the principles of meditation, where you focus on the specific idea for an extended amount of time, if any thoughts interfere simply put it aside and get back to it.

You focus on the idea of God, if other ideas interfere, you put them aside and continue focusing on God.
