In this section, I will list down step by step how you can turn your ideas into a reality. We will use a simple example of a kitchen remodelling project.

Step #1 — Put everything on writings.

The first step is to write down your ideas. Make your idea as clear as possible, and write it down as detailed as you can. At this stage, try to set goals and list down specifics of what and how exactly you want it to be.

For remodeling a kitchen example, you want to write down things such as:

  • Do you have sketches or pictures?
  • Why do you want remodeling? (maybe I want a modern, simple and open kitchen with larger windows)
  • How long do you expect your project to be completed?
  • What is your budget? Etc.

Step #2 — Breaking the project into categories

If you break it down into smaller bits, you will be able to dig into as much detail as possible. And this is the key because you won’t have any surprises in the end.

So for the kitchen remodeling project, you would list down, all of the parts of your kitchen that you wish to remodel. For example, floor, cupboards, ceiling and plumbing.

Then you would go into further detail like, what type of floor do you want to use, tiles, hardwood or laminate? And what is the budget.

Which designs do you want, what color, what kind of material, and what is your budget for the cupboards? The key is to pay attention to the last detail so that you can oversee how your project will end.

Step #3 — Brainstorming

The third step will not apply to our kitchen project if you are planning to hire someone to get the project done for you. If you plan to do everything yourself, however. It is an invaluable step. This also involves doing research on the rates and what is available in the market.

The brainstorming step is crucial. It is a crucial step for all other types of projects, especially for something that has never been done before.

Brainstorming is exactly what it is. Let’s say you lived in an era when there were no power tools or sophisticated equipment to assist us in our work. Then you would have to brainstorm on:

  • Where would you get raw material for constructing kitchen cabinets?
  • How to build kitchen cabinets, how to build tools for such a project?
  • The most effective way to cut stones so that they can be smooth and polished like tiles
  • How do you create pipes or channels to channel water to your kitchen?

At this stage, this is where you will appreciate breaking down the whole project into small tasks. And as you see this principle applies to the kind of projects or ideas that seem impossible. But following these steps will lead you to transform simple ideas into reality.

Step #4 — Assign every task

If you took your time to carefully work on the first, second, and third steps. You will find the fourth step easier. The reason for this is that once you break all tasks and parts of the project into small units, it becomes easier to assign the tasks. This is because you know who is most appropriate for each task.

For example, the wall will be assigned to the painter, then the floor will be assigned to the flooring contractor, and plumbing will be assigned to plumber etc. This is an extremely crucial stage because you will also get professional advice from people who have experience in that field and they will give you practical ideas.

When you have ideas that are completely out of the ordinary, ideas that are completely out of the norm. Because everything will be created from scratch, you will have to assign each task a specific schedule, beginning with the most challenging and progressing to the simple.

Step #5 — Executing the plan

In the last step you simply follow along with your plan, while you evaluate and modify what is practical and what is not practical.

These are the simple five steps that can help you to turn almost any idea into reality. Some projects can take a few days and some will take longer depending on the nature of the project. If you focus and dedicate yourself to turning your ideas into reality, then you will succeed.
