Time To Consider Your Environment as your Body
Become one with your environment for a better future and your wellbeing.
There is a misconception in the statement that we are part of nature, though this is a half-truth. The correct statement is that we are nature.
This simple statement might appear harmless and innocent. However, just the idea that we are outside of the natural ecosystem has brought about a lot of environmental and health disasters in our lives.
If someone tries to deposit toxic material inside of you, this will certainly result in a physical struggle between you and this individual. At least now, many people are becoming aware of the types of the negative impact we have on our environment when we abuse it. But not too long ago, people would care less if they see another person chopping down a tree.
This word is Ubuntu. I have written a long, detailed explanation of what Ubuntu means since it is not just a philosophy, but a way of life.
How does one become one with the environment?
The most effective way to integrate a person’s life with their environment is through their physical needs. In order to understand the physical world, I have divided them into five categories, starting with our senses.
- Sight: Our sight is associated with the need to know, knowledge. We mostly acquire our knowledge through reading. Where we have totally disconnected ourselves from being aware of our local environment. One might argue that there is simply nothing to learn from our surroundings, imagine living in an apartment. What else could you possibly learn from your furniture and other housewares?
This is the key point here, integrating yourself with your environment is not a one-way communication but two ways. Maybe there is nothing to learn but there is much to do in your living space to accommodate and improve the quality of your life. This does not limit you in your living space, but also you integrate yourself with your neighbors and what is happening in your local community. Have you noticed TV, Computers, and phones have taken so much from the locals? where few people watch their local News. - Hearing: The sense of hearing deals with sounds which are vibrations, and vibrations are basically movements. A lot of people don’t know that without our ears we can lose a sense of balance, and on top of that our brains take in harmonious tones to be coherent, that means if you listen to harmonious music, even your movements becomes smoother. Because music is a vibration, it can change your moods. So, then how does it has anything to do with your environment? Everything.
Just imagine a person living in a mechanical workshop, all those noises, hammering, metal cutting, and so on. And someone who lives by the river, away from city noises. So you get the point, that we should consider where we live as part of ourselves because it impacts our wellbeing. What we give out also comes back to us. In some areas, it is illegal to have a rooster, but it is legal to drive those loudest motorbikes even past midnight. Imagine a child growing up in such an environment? - Smell: Bad odor means something that is deteriorating. Our noses besides being able to smell they also take in oxygen. Clean air is important for our well-being. Unfortunately, there is simply no law that requires an analysis report of the toxicity on where people leave before the place is approved as safe for human habitation. And people care less about it either. But this is also a part of us.
- Taste: The taste or mouth means only one thing, food. Our digestive system is only viewed one-sided. What this means is it is only viewed when it is inside the human body. But not what happens before digestion or after. That means the entire cycle of eating food has to be on the outside and inside the human body. That is why there is a concern about the quality of food and environmental pollution when things are viewed as one-sided. So, an individual should connect with the networks that care about the health and the environment. You should know where your food comes from and choose to connect with those that care about it all. Then the external becomes a part of you too.
- Touch: Skin is supposed to be the largest organ in the body. What we wear and the type of environment we live affects our skin. That means you should seek to learn where your clothes come from and if they are good for your skin. The more you seek to improve your skin, you will connect with networks of those who care about their surroundings.
- Social: The surrounding services and interactions are caused by your social life. It means if you choose to connect with a society that resonates with you, then you have solved your problems by 75%. But if you live in an opposing society, if your find the people that surround you oppose everything you are trying to do, then it is time to move and connect with your tribe. They say no man is an island, your service to others is as important and an essential part of your community. to improve your community you improve yourself.
So, then you see, your environment is not a separate part of you. Instead, you are your environment, though this connection somehow appears to be at a slower pace than the physical body. But eventually, there is really no outside, everything that surrounds us is us. If we improve it we are also improving ourselves.
