What Happens When You Commit Suicide?
Are There Any Spiritual Consequences?
The question of ending one’s life has been asked several times by spiritual people. Simply because they no longer see the meaning and purpose of living in this materialistic world. There are many reasons why someone might attempt suicide. The major cause is losing the purpose of living. This is where a person doesn’t see the meaning of continuing to live.
This is how I personally approach this situation.
It is believed that every sentient being has free will, and so is the ability to end one’s own life. Even though it appears to be so simple, there are mechanics at work behind that free will.
A simple example is to take a look at a normal human contract. You decided you want to purchase a new vehicle, you have put money down and have agreed to pay a certain percentage each month.
Days go by, and you enjoy using your new vehicle, but suddenly you face financial turbulence where you hardly have enough money to pay your monthly fees. Life becomes tougher and more challenging when you decide to end the contract.
Ending your contract will result in fines and penalties, which will tarnish your financial credit record.
This is a snapshot of what will happen in the event an individual decides to end their life. Besides deciding to come here as a spiritual being, there are also other contracts and missions that you signed up for which must be accomplished. And not only that but also as life continues, as you continue to live in this world, you are constantly making new contracts. These contracts are minor but are nonetheless significant.
Once you enter this physical world, you agree to certain rules and laws. There will be consequences if you exit this life before you reach the end of your natural lifespan. This is not a scare tactic.
However, the fact that there is a Higher and Greater force that makes you be where you are without your own volitions speaks volumes. We are all subjected to higher principles and laws however you look at it.
If you don’t believe in any spiritual forces, then look at your government. Regulations and rules have been put in place for the benefit of the public. These rules must be obeyed to protect others. It is not so different when it comes to spiritual rules and laws that things are the way they are because of higher principles.
The egoistic consciousness is trapped in the physical body, unable to cope with the unpleasant situation. This is where it cannot take it any longer, suggesting to you that you should end it.
Consider another scenario:
You are driving off-road, but all vehicles have tolerance levels, and if you push them too far, they wear out. Your purpose as a driver is to reach your destination, while the vehicle does not comprehend the purpose and mission of driving off-road.
If the vehicle breaks down, the driver is forced to revive the vehicle to continue his journey. This means in the grand scheme of things, in one way or another, the mission must continue. If you end your life now, you will be forced to undergo the same experience again to reach where you are meant to reach.
How to deal with suicidal thoughts?
- Realize that all thoughts and ideas are merely suggestions and that you are always in full control of what you choose to do.
- Remember that no matter how difficult the circumstances may seem, you as a spiritual being having a human experience do not know everything, you cannot see the whole picture. Humbleness and acceptance of defeat will calm your nerves. Take time to grieve and accept the situation as it is without reacting to it.
- Reflect and consider that there is something much more profound and broader than yourself, and perhaps everything has a very positive meaning and purpose. You didn’t give birth to yourself, and neither did you consciously choose the challenges you’re facing. Doing this will help you to step out of the situation and view it from a very different point of view.
- Express how you feel to other people. This will help you to unload the burden and see things from other people’s perspectives. This can be professional help or social help.
- Be stupid for a minute, get out of your mind for a minute, and then realize that maybe things are not as complicated as you see them and what matters the most is the present moment and not the what-ifs.
- Don’t be selfish, because it is not just about you. Your life is made up of different people around you. Consider how much will this impact those who are closer to you?
