Let’s face it, spirituality is not smooth sailing, there are ups and down all the time. But sometimes there are astronomical challenges that make a person retreat or hold off their spiritual practices for a while.

What are spiritual turbulences?

As the term suggests, spiritual turbulence is when in your routinely spiritual practices, you find yourself unable to maintain the pace and devotions because of either external circumstances or internal ones. 

This turbulence is things that directly interfere with your spiritual practice. These interferences are such as:

  • Illness that requires medical attention, as a result, a person cannot continue their practices.
  • Drug abuse, sometimes spiritual practitioner ends up in drug abuse where they become addicted to drugs and are unable to continue to practice their spiritual practices.
  • Distractive behaviors and destructive behaviors can rise out of nowhere, where a person finds themselves involved in prostitution, becoming an alcoholic, laziness, and so on.
  • Mental illness, a mental illness or overly suspicious and superstition would rise which results in interference of a person’s spiritual practices.
  • Financial losses of bankruptcy.
  • Loss of friends, divorce, or family.

These are the most common ones, that might rise amid someone’s spiritual practice. 

Most spiritual practitioners will experience these turbulences once in a while. Where if a person cannot endure and persevere they end up abandoning their practices.

Why and where do they come from?

The truth is these spiritual turbulences on higher levels are directly related to your spiritual practice. They appear to you for many reasons such as:

  • A test to see if you are strong enough to pass a certain threshold. 
  • A karmic debt that must be paid before you continue to the next level.
  • A spiritual cleansing that happened violently. See it like this, you are cleaning your muddy vehicle Then a huge chunk of mud falls off your vehicle. This is such an effect.
  • A direct attack from your spiritual enemies.

How to deal with spiritual turbulences?

The key here is to maintain your attitude, don’t fall down with it, even if you can’t find time to continue your spiritual practices. Do the least that will maintain your state of being.

Do not react to these turbulences negatively, take them as meaningful and a good sign to your practice.

Defend your turf, if you experience negative events and signs increasing, you need to also defend what you have and not fall for where this is leading you to. If it is an attack that means, whatever is attacking you wants you to stop practicing spirituality, and learn to fight spiritual battles.
