Why Accepting Defeat is Good for Your Mental Health
Letting go will help you move forward
I remember when I was a kid, my Dad was my Hero. I believed he could do anything and knows everything. But when challenges started happening, I discovered that He is a human being, after all, he is not invincible.
We find ourselves in emotional baggage because we cling to certain beliefs or ideologies that drag us back.
You will find out a lot of people are disappointed that Santa wasn’t real and are angry that they were lied to. The fact that we let these grudges go, we can move forward.
Here are a couple of things that I discover by accepting defeat we can live a happier life.
- By accepting defeat, I was acknowledging that I am not invincible after all and that shit happens in life where I sometimes can’t do much about it.
- By accepting defeat, I became compassionate, the awareness of the fact that accidents and bad things could happen to anyone, made me gain more compassion towards other people. If tragedy happens to anyone I could also share the pain and be there whenever they needed my help.
- By losing something we gain more. It is an interesting principle, on which I have learned to apply in my life. There was a moment where my employer passed away. I couldn’t find a job for a while. But by losing that employment, I ended up starting my company where I generated more income than what I used to get paid.
- The faster you let go the faster you can move forward, When any tragedy happens to me, I always accept it, without spending too much time contemplating how unjust the situation was. The past has passed we just have to forge the path forward.
- Grieving is the best therapy ever, I have learned that if you have time to grief on whatever take your time to do it, because that is the best way your system can take the pain out, and grieving works best when you accept that you have been defeated.
Conclusion
By accepting our defeat we can move forward quickly because we have let go of the past, but holding a grudge that something should have been this way or that way, overloads our performance in life.
